Engine code

Where to find the engine code

The engine code is on a sticker on the engine or stamped on the engine block, and sometimes in the vehicle documents. If you can't find it, write “don't know” in the form and fill in the VIN. We find the code from the VIN ourselves, free of charge and before you order.

Three places to find the code

An engine code looks like F1AGL4113, for example. It identifies the exact engine variant, which is why it gets you a quote fastest.

  1. On the engine

The code is usually on a sticker on the engine or stamped directly into the engine block. The exact location varies by make and engine generation.

  2. Service book

The vehicle's service book often lists the engine code too.

  3. Vehicle documents

In some countries the registration document also lists the engine code. Documents differ from country to country, so the field may have a different name or be missing. You will find the vehicle's 17-character VIN there too.

What the code looks like for your make

Example codes from engines we supply. Mercedes engine codes often have 6 to 8 digits.

Make Engines Example codes
Fiat Ducato 2.3 Multijet (F1A), 3.0 Multijet (F1C), 2.2 (DW12) F1AGL4113, F1CE3481E, 4H03
Iveco Daily 2.3 (F1A), 3.0 (F1C), older Sofim 8140 F1AGL411C, F1CE0481D, 8140.43S
Peugeot Boxer 2.2 HDi / BlueHDi (DW12), 3.0 HDi (F1C) 4HV, AHN, F1CE3481E
Citroën Jumper 2.2 HDi / BlueHDi (DW12), 3.0 (F1C) 4HU, 4H03, F1CE0481D
Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue, 2.2 TDCi, 2.4 TDCi YMF6, CYFA, PGFA
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter OM 651 (2.1 / 2.2 CDI), OM 642 (3.0 V6) 651955, 65195530, 642896
Volkswagen Transporter 2.0 TDI, 2.5 TDI CAAA, CXFA, AXD
Volkswagen Crafter 2.0 TDI, 2.5 TDI CKTB, DAUA, BJK
MAN TGE 2.0 TDI (EA288) DAUA, DAVB, DAUF

One code can appear in several makes. The 2.2 (DW12) family is used in the Boxer, Jumper, Ducato and Transit. The Crafter from 2017 and the MAN TGE share the same engines and codes. The code pins down the exact variant within one engine family: F1AGL4113 and F1AGL411C, for example, are two variants of the 2.3 engine.
