The most widely used engine range in the modern Transporter - it replaced the older 5-cylinders in 2009. EA189 (T5 facelift) and EA288 (T6 / T6.1) share their construction with the VW Crafter and the wider VW Group. Bosch CRI3 common rail with chain timing at the rear of the engine, AdBlue SCR on Euro 6 versions.

The classic 5-cylinder turbodiesel - the T4 still uses a distributor pump (VP37), the T5 uses Pumpe-Düse (PD) injectors. Known for its unmistakable sound and high low-end torque. Suitable for fleets that want to keep the original character of the older Transporter.

Garrett / BorgWarner turbo

VNT turbo for the 2.0 TDI EA189 and EA288, sequential Bi-Turbo (Garrett + IHI) for the Bi-TDI variants CFCA / DXZ. Including actuators and gaskets.

Bosch / Siemens injectors

Bosch CRI2 / CRI3 common rail for the 2.0 TDI and Pumpe-Düse units for the 1.9 TDI and 2.5 TDI. With coding data for IMA programming.

High-pressure pump

Bosch CP4.1 for the EA288, CP3 for the EA189. On the 2.5 TDI / 1.9 TDI it is a tandem vacuum + fuel pump. Prone to fuel contamination - we recommend filtration as well.

Timing

The 2.0 TDI EA288 uses chain timing (~150,000 km interval), older 1.9 / 2.5 TDI units use a toothed belt with a 90,000 - 120,000 km service interval. Kits include the water pump.

Cylinder head

Fully assembled 2.0 TDI, 1.9 TDI and 2.5 TDI heads - the 5-cylinder heads for older generations are specific. A solution for engine overheating or a cracked head.

Clutch and flywheel

Three-piece clutch kits and dual-mass flywheels for both manual (5/6-speed) and automatic (DSG 7-speed) for the entire T4, T5 and T6 range.
