The MAN TGE is the result of a joint venture between MAN Truck & Bus and Volkswagen - since 2017 it has shared its platform, chassis and engines with the second-generation VW Crafter. The customer gets the familiar MAN service network and ruggedness, while under the bonnet sits the proven VW 2.0 TDI engine of the EA288 family.

The MAN TGE uses exclusively the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder VW EA288 - from the base single-turbo 102 hp to the 177 hp Bi-Turbo for demanding duty and the heavy 5-tonne variants.

The base and mid-range power line for the majority of the MAN TGE - covering variants from 3.0 to 4.0 tonnes. Bosch common rail with chain timing and an AdBlue SCR system. Thanks to platform sharing with the VW Crafter, peripheral parts and diagnostics are widely available.

Parts for the MAN TGE

In addition to whole engines we supply all key components for the 2.0 TDI EA288 - so you avoid sourcing parts from five different suppliers and losing days waiting for „the last one“.

Single / Bi-Turbo

Garrett VNT turbo for the 102 - 140 hp versions, sequential Bi-Turbo (Garrett + IHI) for the 177 hp variant. Including actuators and gaskets.

Bosch injectors

Bosch CRI3 common-rail injectors for the EA288. Supplied with coding data for IMA programming into the ECU.

High-pressure pump

Bosch CP4.1 high-pressure pump for the EA288. Prone to failure on contaminated fuel - we recommend replacing it together with the filtration.

Timing

The EA288 uses chain timing (~150,000 km interval) at the rear of the engine. Kits including tensioners, guide rails and seals.

Cylinder head

Fully assembled 2.0 TDI heads including valves, guides and gaskets. A solution for engine overheating or a cracked original head.

Clutch and flywheel

Dual-mass flywheels and clutch kits for both manual and automatic (8AT for Bi-Turbo). Genuine Sachs / LuK.

A reman for the TGE usually does not pay off

The MAN TGE is among the newer models, mostly running fleet duty. On a van that exceeds 40,000 km a year, a remanufactured engine is a gamble - especially the 2.0 TDI EA288, which is sensitive to component quality in the fuel system. The second repair usually arrives within six months.

A new engine has a clear 0 km, full warranty and no doubts. Under intensive use it works out cheaper in the long run - the TGE sits at the workshop once, not four times.
