About this engine

The F1A engine with 2,287 cm³, Euro 3 or Euro 4. In the 2002–2011 Iveco Daily III and IV it is the 2.3 HPI, in the Fiat Ducato the 2.3 JTD (2002–2006) and the 120 or 130 Multijet (2006–2011).

Do not confuse it with the newer F1AE3481 of the same displacement, which replaced it in the Fiat Ducato in June 2011. The 2006–2011 Ducato 100 Multijet has the 2.2 Ford “Puma” engine, not the 2.3.

What workshops ask. The F1A has a toothed timing belt; its replacement interval is set by the vehicle's service schedule. When the engine is replaced, the workshop fits a new timing kit unless it comes with the engine. Neither the long block nor the short block includes the turbo, injectors or EGR valve; the workshop moves them over from the old engine. If the cause of the failure was there or in the cooling system, it has to be fixed before fitting.
